April 30, 200421 yr If the starter is on the drivers side of the bellhousing than it will bolt to the 1.8 tranny. If the starter is in the middle of the bellhousing than it will only fit the 1.6. Being an '86 it should be a wide body bellhousing.

May 1, 200421 yr Author if you just moved to new castle, look for a guy named ''biker dave'', looks like sammy haggar, but with long long blond hair,usually braided. we were good friends when i lived up the frying pan outside of basalt. so you think that 1.6l will fit if the starter is on the drivers side?did some sking, but mostly dirt biking & fourwheeling, now i live down in the mississippi delta, i've got some farm land down here, about 1 hour below memphis. my place is about 10 minutes away from the famed ''crossroads'', where robert johnson made the deal with the devil
May 1, 200421 yr yeah, the dl "STD" hatchback from 85 up had the 1600 fat case motor, which had the same dimensions of the 1800 motor. yup, mm hmm, it will fit.
