Loyale driveline rust

Featured Replies

Hey guys just looking for some ideas on this but I have a 91 loyale and the underside has rusted right where the driveline carrier bearing bracket mounts and now it has begun to hang down on one side because it's rusted off. I am on the proper way would be to cut that section out and weld in a new piece but I only my paid 500 bucks for it and it just needs to last the rest of the winter. One idea I have is to get a plate and bolt it to the underside of the car to support the bracket. Any other ideas or suggestions that might be easier or what others have done in the past?

Bolting a plate to the underside is easy enough.  Just have to remove the seats to do it right.

I used a 2-piece driveshaft for my 5-speed swap, so I had to deal with the carrier bearing.

Only other realistic option would be a 1-piece driveshaft swap.

Nothing special, 1/4" or 3/16" if I remember right.   I had them on hand in my misc fastener stash.  Only reason I used them is because I had a matched set.

Use stainless steel and keep to larger than 5/16" diameter.  You have to plan for bumps and rust.
