February 15, 201412 yr Anyone ever tried those universal exhaust pipe kits? Build your own sorta deal. My exhaust is rusting out and I don't really feel like shelling out a ton of money to have a shop re-do it.
February 15, 201412 yr Define "a ton of money" You would be hard pressed to build your own for much cheaper than most exhaust shops. Consider the time it will take you, and you are much better off taking to a shop. I had my cat-back single 2.25 exhaust with a decent muffler done for less than $200.
February 15, 201412 yr Hi, I have never used one on a Subaru yet but have used them on some of the hot rods that I have built and my Landcruiser. J.C. Whitney has a good selection of all the bends. The last two kits that I have used were from Summit, all the bends and pipe you would need, the pipes are flared on one end so that they fit together better, rather than butt welding them, also you can clamp them if you aren't welding the joints. Hope that helps a little.
February 15, 201412 yr Author Idasho, ton of money = $250-300. Thanks for the advice and the ballpark quote. I may just go the shop route after all. How's that 2.25 exhaust? Would you go 2 inch if you could do it all over? I've just heard talk about losing backpressure, and whatnot.
February 15, 201412 yr Author Thanks for the info Steve, I am rethinking this whole DIY thing, I looked outside, and thought "oh yeah it's winter, and I don't have a garage."
February 15, 201412 yr With my high compression ea81, weber, and a 5-speed D/R, it does great. Loads of torque down low. Edited February 15, 201412 yr by Idasho
February 15, 201412 yr I vote exhaust shop, it's a huge PITA to build your own without a bender or a lift.
