I am working on a car for a friend and he has an issue where the airbag light is on and so is the ABS light.  I know about the clockspring for the airbag and that may very well be what it is, but is there a way to trouble shoot these systems?  If so, can someone instruct me on how to do so?

Yes, you can make both blink codes by jumping different wires in the small black 6 pin plug under the dash. At least, you can on 04 and older models. Not sure about newer than that.

What year and model is the car?

in some soobs, the ABS is very sensitive to voltage. check your charging system and battery.
