98 forester, strong gas odor. Digging around and found the leak is coming from the quick connector located right on top of fuel pump.

Is this a common place for gas to leak/sipping thru? I am assume I will need a new connector? Any suggestion?

Pretty common for the metal piping there to rust. If the rust spreads up under the o-ring seal in the connector it would cause a leak.

 

You will probably have to replace the entire fuel pump unit to repair that.

what Faritax said - and it can be a real bear to get that connector apart.

you are supposed to be able to squeeze the white part to slide the hose side off...I had to do a fair amount of digging with a dental pick to get enough rust out of there to be able to separate mine.
