Steering feels loose

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My 1980 1.6 SRX currently is runny great, but my only problem is that at highway speeds my steering feels a bit loose.  If I am driving in town it feel fine.

These are the things I have done to try to fix the problem:

1. The axl pinions in the gear box were worn so I changed them.

2. I calibrated and adjusted the rack and pinion (there was some play in the wheels) after the adjustment. the play is  better.

3. Wheel alignment

There is small improvement but it basically the same,

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Check the coupling steering column to steering rack.

Also, rear suspension issues can cause loose feeling steering at higher speeds, so check things over back there.
