95 Legacy overheating

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm a newbi to this forum and to Subaru's!

There is a 1995 Legacy GLS I am interested in and it has a recently replaced top rad hose, (owner say's it was the first time ever it overheated) should I continue to be interested or move on? the rest of the car looks ok.

Could we be talking big bucks here?

regards

Tom

Im a little bit confused. Did he replace the top rad hose and then it overheated or it overheated and then he replaced the top rad hose? I dont see how just replacing a rad hose will cause the car to overheat unless he replaced it and didnt refill the coolant system. Did it only overheat once and it runs fine now or does it still over heat when you drive it now?

Sorry! I should have made it clear.

The top rad hose had been replaced because it had blown due to overheating.

This is a 2 ltr engine.

OK...It could be a number of things but I would check the fan first to make sure it goes on when the car gets warm. Then I would check out the thermostat. And if its still not fixed check the waterpump. I just had my Outback overheat b/c the fan wasnt working. It ended up being a relay.

This is all kind of hard to do since the car isnt yours but If hes selling it while the car overheats I would hope he selling it really cheap.

EDIT: and as for cost if its the thermostat then it will cost only a few buck but if its the waterpump or fan its like 100-250 depending if you do it yourself or have it done.
