Getting more Boxer rumble from a 2.2

Featured Replies

My '95 Impreza is completely stock, 2.2, auto, 132,000 miles. She's my daily driver and love it.

While I can hear that distinct Boxer rumble from about 2500-3500rpm, I'm kinda craving a little more without breaking the bank. The sound produced by the WRX and STi puts a smile on my face. I'm not expecting to get that much sound from my 2.2, but are there any simple mods I can do? I found a shop that makes UEL headers for the 93-96 Impreza. Just curious what's available. If there's not much I can do, I can live with that, no worries. Thanks!

Get an exhaust leak! DOT does it for free around here every winter :)

95 will have dual exhaust ports, so you could just buy an eBay UEL header made for a 2.5 non turbo and that would help a lot. Part it with a louder muffler and you'll get the sound you're looking for.

UEL header stands for "unequal lengthy Header," which producers the thump, thump, thump sound in the exhaust system of a WRX,  you like to hear.
