95 legacy motor into a 98 legacy

Featured Replies

What are all the modifications I have to make in order to make this swap work ? Any help is much appreciated!

What engine does the 98 have?

Assuming the 95 is an automatic and the 98 is a dual cam 2.5, it's a direct swap everything bolts up and plugs in. Otherwise, give us details.

No they are both the same motor. It's a 95 manual into a 98 manual legacy. They are the same cars just putting the older motor into the newer body. The 98 has bent valves. The tranny is staying though. I just know there are a few sensors and vacuum lines that are different.

I just don't know what I have to change exactly because I know there are a few things

Well the 95 motor doesn't have EGR. If the 98 doesn't either, it's a direct drop in. If the 98 has EGR you'll have a check engine light for that, if you don't care it doesn't hurt anything.

Did the late year models have an egr ? I Think mine might have it. Isn't there other stuff I have to re direct or something too ?

The 95 motor will mechanically and electrically drop directly into the 98. You might have to change one vacuum solenoid for the evap line, but it's a fairly easy swap. I don't know if the 98 has EGR because I don't know what enigne or model it is and I don't have a picture.

It is an ej22 just like the 95. I know the 98 has a sensor on the left side of the bay instead of under the manifold because it's easier.

They are both 2.2. My 95 just had 145000 miles on it and this 98 had 202000 and bent valves so I am just switching over.

put the 98 intake manifold on the 95 block and heads and you are done .

install it, plug it in and drive away.

the only differences are on the intake manifold.

unplug it and unbolt it from the 98 and put it on the 95,

install the 95 in the 98 car

and DRIVE AWAY.

any questions?

it does not get much easier than this.

PS:

you will also need the 95 exhaust y-pipe.

the 95 has dual port heads and rthge 98 has single port heads.

you can use ANY dual port y-pipe 90 - 99, they are all the same .

and can be found on

legacy ej22 cars 92 - 95

impreza ej22 cars 95 only

impreza ej18 cars 93 - 97

legacy, forester and impreza? ej25 cars 96 - 99.

the ej22 cars 96 - 99 are single port just like your 98.

those will not work.

good luck.
