94 legacy awd cruise control

Featured Replies

As the title says my cruise control doesn't work. Light comes on on the cruise control button just nothing happens when I hit the little speed selector stick on the steering wheel. Where should I start?

make sure the vac hose is on the unit in the engine comp adn the nylon buttons are on the clutch & brake pedals

I'll look at the clutch and brake pedals. Where's this hose that you speak of? Like where's it start where's it end?

Ok so I looked my brake and clutch pedals... Where's this nylon button located?

there should be a button/switch on the brake pedal arm (well above the foot pad) and if you have a manual, there will be another one behind the clutch pedal arm - again, well up there - i want to say just above the pivot point...

for the vacuum line - there are two cables that run to the throttle plate - follow them back to the firewall - one will go thru the firewall with no major changes, the other will go to a small vacuum canister - that is for the cruise system

Ahaaaaa. And since I've needed to tighten that left cruise control throttle cable anyways I may as well trace it to the canister. And What should I check for on the nylon buttons, just to see if they're still there?

make sure the buttons are in place - we had a 90 that was missing the clutch pedal one when we got it... and that they operate (open/close) with pedal operation

just dont confuse the brake cruise button with the normal brake light switch... ;)

So I orgot to mention that the throttle cabble for the cruise control has slack in the line... Does that make a difference...

both cables are supposed to have just a little bit of slack in them - they should not be tight against the throttle plate at rest so the throttle plate can close fully/properly.

both cables should be at about the same amount of slack adjustment. it isnt/doesnt need to be much, maybe 1/16th inch, but it does need to be there.

If the cruise cable is much looser than the other, it kind of says to me there was an issue with it that the previous owners didnt want to spend the time/money investigating and they (or thier mechanic) loosened the cable so it wouldnt interfere with normal driving of the car.

Lol dude this car was pretty neglected in my opinion.it almost feels to me that where the throttle is mounted needs to have another shim put on it. I'd love to use my c/c as I'm doing a 1600 mile road trip back to port Angeles Washington from rifle colorado.

I live with a heavy equipment mechanic so I try not to bug them on this kinda stuff that I can do myself but he knows I need help time to time.

Cables need to have some freedom and can be adjusted right at the bracket on top of the intake.  12mm nuts

Yah I just need to walk out to the field where the cars parked and do it and see what happens next time I drive it.

I can relate - 1600 miles of holding the throttle gets old quick - even on these cars. Just try to understand that the cruise control may not be an "easy fix".

Even after getting a bunch of new parts for the one we had that was missing the clutch button - as in a complete OE cruise install kit - never did get the cruise to work on it & never did figure out why... <_<

The guy I apprenticed mechanics from lives in carbondale like 60 miles from me and he's really good with subarus so I'll let him mess with it.

Cables tight I can hear the sensor click when I hit the cruise control switch but no noise when I click the switch on the steering wheel to set the speed. Sensor?

Clock Spring wires in the steering wheel.

Clock Spring wires in the steering wheel.

a very good possibility ^

requires pulling the center cover off the wheel to gain access - at least 94 doesnt have airbags...

Heyyyyy sweet. hoe much do those clock spring wires cost? Never had a cruise control vehicle before don't even know what that is. I've got a junkyard here local I can check.
