brat tailgate lock?

Featured Replies

I assume I'm not missing anything but is there a way to actually lock the tailgate on the brat? 1982 model in specific. Just wanting extra security with my topper. Not that it's a hard car to break into but ...ya know...make them work a little to get in at least.

padbolt on each side inside is what I was thinking, or add an alarm to vehickle, include a switch on the tailgate ?

The topper should have a lock....and it's overlap of the tailgate should prevent the tailgate from opening.

You can however add a lock to the tailgate handle with some work. You would have to get a lock cylinder with the right sized arm. Since most types of that kind of cylinder accept different arms, you can mix and match until you get the right one. You'd have to figure where to cut the hole in the tailgate to place the cylinder so that when it's turned, the arm locks into place against the scissor mechanism of the tailgate handle and prevents it from moving. The hole can't be perfectly round either. It will have to have slots cut in it to match the tabs on the lock cylinder housing to keep it from rotating. Yes, this thought has crossed my mind before. lol
