tic of death 1993 ea82

Featured Replies

I think that is called a Red-line tune up. Possibly the most underrated cure for TOD? I baby my car. I must say I am impressed. Never drove an ea82 that would top 80 and my gf 3AT will barely go 70. Were you going down hill?

Anyways. Drive it like you stole it.

That was shortly after a slight downhill section. I was checking the engine. :-P

I'm surprised about what you say about not being able to reach higher speeds, both the 3at Loyale and my 5 speed GL will cruise on level ground at 85 all day, though the Loyale screams while there. I really did have to push it to hit 100 though. There really wasnt much more to get out of it at that point. These ea82s don't seem to breathe well above 5500rpms.

They car has seen that speed a handful more times since then. I once thought it was on its last legs and drive it 240 miles at or above 85mph for three and a half hours. That's 3 1/2 hours of 4500+ rpms. That's why I always try to reassure people asking about the high revs of a 3at at highway speeds; trust me, it will be fine. Timing belts and all associated parts should be in good shape though.

I've also reached 105 mph in my stock carb GL in high altitude driving Arizona with ambient 100 temps. It was gasping as well but more so because of the thin air.

Sorry to jack your thread, I now return it!

I hope that tick stays away. A replacement pump and seal has fixed it for me, twice!

"70mph @4100rpms"

Gotta love that 3 speed auto! :-)

I got a ticket going 90 in my 3 speed auto and my rpms were only at like 5k. And I was going uphill. I think somebody needs to check their trans.

replace the pump before cam tower orings.  i've never had to replace the cam tower orings to fix TOD.
