1984 GL10 won't start..

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I am writing on behalf of my brother. He has an '84 GL10 1.8L non-turbo that won't start. It has no spark at the coil. It turns over. He has changed the coil, the distributor with the pick up coil, the control unit, and even the computer. Do you folks have any ideas for him?

Much appreciated!

Make sure there is power at the coil.

Is there a computer on that year/ model?  I have an 85 GL non-turbo and I don't think mine has a computer.  I was going to suggest putting the old parts back on and seeing if it starts then, double checking all connectors, and posting a video never hurts.  Good luck to you and your bro!!

Fuse 12 is for ignition.

Check it and test for power on the positive side of the coil with key On.

Use a test light between coil negative and battery negative, light should pulse as you crank the engine.

If light doesn't pulse, pickup in disty or the wiring to it is faulty.

Thanks guys,

he's checking those things. He does have power at the positive side of the coil though. His computer flashes 16, which is a "feedback" error. What does that mean?

Thanks again!

My BRAT 85 wouldn't start, found that starter was drawing so much current their wasn't enough left for the coil, Replaced starter, works fine now,
