i need help really bad my engine in my 2006 legacy is shot due to a cracked head and i cant find any EJ253s any where iv read online that i could put a 2.2 in my car but i need to know from experts please help me?

No 2.2 will bolt into that car.

Who diagnosed a cracked head? That's pretty much unheard of on these engines.

Have you checked car-part.com?

The mechanic who is fixing it and I saw the cracks they are by the spark plugs and I have no clue where to find heads for cheap or used

If the head itself is indeed cracked, do a search on www.car-part.com input the info on your vehicle and search for "cylinder head"

I think you've got the SOHC model in which case a used one is about $150 and I saw some remanufactured for $450. Shipping would be additional but way better than paying dealership prices.

I, too, recommend www.car-part.com. Very easy to do a search to find what you want. I have bought from several yards listed there, and have gotten good parts at reasonable cost, that were packaged, and shipped to me quickly.

Did he magnaflux it?

If the head is cracked I can only imagine the thing was severely overheated. Probably best if you put a whole engine in it because the rod bearings will be toast in 10k.

iv looked for a whole engine and its way to expensive and how do i tell my rod bearing is bad? and whats magnflux?

Edited by blodgettmikel123

Magnaflux is a flourescent dye liquid that sprayed on engine parts to check for cracks. Helps you tell the difference between a real crack and a casting line.

No real way to check the rod bearings without pulling the block apart. Overheating thins the oil and will score the bearings. It might be fine for 10k miles or it might only make it a day. Kind of a crap shoot, might get lucky, might not.

I should have asked before, did the engine overheat? Why was it taken to the shop?

the car never overheated when i had it but i do remember a knocking but it only happened when it was really cold. i took it to the shop because 2nd and 3rd gear was slipping and the heads were leaking so i wanted to kill 2 brids with one stone and thats when i found out they were cracked.
