Forester door handle removal help needed!

Featured Replies

We have a 99 Forester and the driver's side front door handle broke, will not release the latch. I can see where the plastic piece just inside the housing broke off. I have a new handle to install, but simply cannot figure out how to get the old handle off. I have the door panel off and can't figure it out. Is there a tutorial somewhere I can reference? This is my better half's car, so need to get it fixed soon. Thanks for the help!

Sent pic from OpposedForces. Hope this will help you figure it out.

That helps with the linkage locations, thank you! My other issue is it appears the (2) bolts that hold the handle in place are completely blocked by the window mechanisms and tracks. If I lower the window, the glass is in the way. With the window up, the linkage and track block the bolts. Do I have to gut the door just to do this handle? I read somewhere it can be done start to finish in 5-10 minutes, however I'm finding that hard to believe with what I'm looking at.

Once the panel is removed. Lower the window. At some point  (maybe halfway) the bolts will be accessible. Just look at it as you lower, you'll find that point.
