1992 SVX ALT belt tighten

Featured Replies

Just replaced the alternator on the SVX. I thought I Loosened the belt tensioner but still had to pry the belt off. What is the proper way to loosen the belt tensioner and of course re tighten it? Thanks! First post!

Stark: The tensioner on the alt is held tight by the 12 mm bolt that sits horizontal , after loosening that then you loosen the vertical bolt as well as the pivot bolt on the a/c side. The belt will still be snug but will slide off and back on.   The a/c belt will have a similar tightening set up with a horizontal nut that must be loosened before trying to adjust the belt . If you thought the alt belt was tight the a/c is tighter.

Thanks Montana. After "tightening" the belt I test started the engine and the belt squeaked.. Just tightened a bit more and squeaking stopped. Just needed the assurance I was doing the right thing. Thanks!
