bI need a Subaru project. I really like the practicality of a truck. Own a 2011 F250 since I live on a small farm, it hauls the hay, firewood and livestock. But driving it to work every day is not that practical. But I dont need a 4 door wagon. A Ute would be perfect. It would be a 96-2004ish. Have to be 5spd which I would swap since I kno there rare in an OB. If older, it would also get a 2.2 swap.

 

where is the structure in the Subaru? I kno most unibodies get floppy when you cut the roof off, but I want to cut the inside out of an old truck bed and section it to fit, and then figure out a rear window that looks right. I have the tools and skills, Just dont want to build a wet noodle. I want the bed to be usable. I was going to try to get an old Impreza for a commuter but its fed and owner wants more than I want to pay.

Why not just buy a Baja and be done with it? If you want a project rather than a finished car, buy one wrecked or with a bad engine and fix it. Seems like an all-around better option to me.

 

But I don't want to crush your creativity. I'd love to see the fabrication process if you build one. Could be cool.

Baja has too small of a bed for me to even bother. Not only that, there out of production so prices are consistently high. I want just a 2 seater with a bed. That's a little under a 6' bed without a tape measure or a car to look at. I was thinking the rear cab wall from a Baja for a factory appearance, but that would be a hard find and expensive.

ill add that I have a mig welder, grinders flanging tools, a planashing hammer. As well as a whole slew of cutting tools... I want a modern Brat.

 every time i go to the yard i look in every subaru of proper year for them. so far i have all but the ones for around the radio and vents. i found the one for around the radio once but someone ripped it out and broke it.

I don't know what shipping would be, but there is an Outback (legacy) either '99 or '00 that has all that wood trim in good shape at the pull-a-part here.

while at work I did tires on 04 outback. 900 lbs capacity. So with all the removed glass, interior and other weight, and the bed interstructure added, it might actually end up lighter. It would be cool if I could put 1\4 ton in the bed. Figuring 400 pounds for driver and passanger.. I'll just weigh it before and after, and subtract or add the difference

Just do it nicer than they did in the video.  That back window just doesn't look right. 

the back window has to look right for me to do it. A factory looking mod. I noticed the newer roof isn't going to look right for me due to the curviture on top. An old flat roof legacy outback would look best.
