98 & 99 OBW, change diff lube

Featured Replies

What gear weight lube should I get to change the diff lube in my 2 Subies? I saw two different viscosity diff lubes for sale at my part store, don't know which weight to buy.................Thanks for any help.

80w-90 is the basic stuff, what's recommended in the owners manual. Works just fine.

If you want to spend more money on synthetic you can get 75w-90 which offers a bit better cold flow rate.

Or if you are hauling heavy loads frequently, get the 75w-140 for better high temp protection.

Do not use either of the latter two in the manual transmission. They will cause shifting problems. Fine for use in auto trans front diff though.
