Just swapped out a 2.5 DOHC(99) for a 2.2 SOHC(95) Legacy.  All went very well - no codes, runs good.  I did notice that there is a loud air/high pitch frequency noise(hard to describe) coming from the air box.  Not sure what it is - it has a brand new filter installed.  Maybe something in the vent (inside fender) or an issue with the PCV?

Have you checked to make sure all the connections are seated tightly and sealed?  It could be you have it not quite tight somewhere and it's sucking air.

^^^ what he said - check those 'tabs' at the bottom end of the box.

My Impreza has a high pitched whistle that shows up when I use Fram filters. For some reason they don't seal right. No other brand including Subaru does it and it only happens in my '07 not my '06.

Will check as mentioned - most likely me cheap Oreilly filter not sealing.
