TCU Code 11, engine speed signal?

Featured Replies

First, thanks to all who have contributed on this site. I've been a longtime lurker and have used countless diy/write ups as reference doing everything including replacing my transfer clutch plates. Awesome reference!

2002 Subaru Legacy L wagon, 140,000 miles. AT OIL TEMP light flashes continuously while driving. Pulled the TCU codes following this: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/113278-how-to-read-transmission-codes/ and got a 1-1, which I interpret to be a Phase II "engine speed signal".

Car drives fine, haven't noticed anything different from when the light wasn't flashing.

I've searched everything I can google, both this site and others trying to figure out what exactly that refers to. (Where this sensor or signal is coming from). Hoping someone knows, figured this is the place.. Thanks in advance!

I have no idea what it iuses as the engine speed sensor- tach input?

On the wiring diagram you could follow the wire.

Thanks for the reply. Looking at the wiring diagram (below), there isn't an input depicted for the "engine speed sensor". (Two vehicle speed sensors and a torque converter turbine speed sensor are depicted, but those all carry independent codes other than 1-1).

I've pored over the wiring manual looking for any other TCM/TCU inputs that could be the "engine speed sensor", but have come up dry.

Any suggestions welcome.

have you done any recent work under the hood?

i had a very wierd AT Temp light problem,

it was either blinking or always on while driving.

i can't remember which.

it did NOT blink at start up.

does yours?

No recent work at all. (At least, within a year of the problem surfacing)

About 10% of the time, I can start and drive without seeing the light at all. The rest of the time, it will remain on solid while the vehicle is stopped and blinks when the vehicle is moving (Even very slowly). It seems to blink fast or slow while driving, I haven't been able to figure out when it'll switch. (Sometimes it alternates between fast and slow every few seconds, sometimes it just blinks at one speed the entire time you're moving.) It isn't tied to engine rpm, I can kick it into neutral while the car is in motion and the blinking acts the same as it did when I was in drive.
