Was taking a quick look at my nieces 07 impreza.....the cv housing near tranny used to be held on with a roll pin on older

models

I did not see one on her car

What is holding it on?

 

axle has a stub that snaps in , no roll pin

so how does it slide off??  just yank on it?

Circlip inside holds it. Just like the axles on every other car on the road. No more special Subaru where you can change the axles without dumping fluid everywhere.

 

Pry-bar between the axle cup and the trans. Use the bolt that holds the bearing retainer ring as a fulcrum. A quick pop should get it out. If not, apply pressure and give the prybar a good smack with a hammer.
