97 Legacy outback blowing trans fluid out of the vent.

Checking ebay and they are a little pricey. Also an issue with shipping as you have to tack on at least 75 bucks for residential delivery. I would be much more comfortable dealing semi local. I am going to look into the tube seals on the converter as suggested here first. The transmission pumps the fluid out of the diff vent from the second the car is started. The diff is filled to the top with ATF. it would probably come out of  the dipstick tube if I were to remove the dipstick.

Another quick question, How difficult is it to change the pump? If I am going to go the route of changing the tube seals does the pump require pinion shaft removal? I assume the differential has got to be separated from the transmission.

This is the tube I was thinking of. It seals the pump from the diff case area. There are seals at both ends I think. Looks like the converter case may have to come off to get it out.

Great breakdown. with the amount and rate of fluid coming out I believe this might just be the problem. I should get a good idea of where the fluid is passing through. I may just look to change the pump too while in there.

Found a car on craigslist being parted out but can;t get an answer on the transmission. Still trying to get an answer and trying to get the whole car.

Transmission on that parts car is no good. Oh well still looking. I will pull the trans out of the car today or tomorrow and see what is causing the fluid leak into the diff.
