June 5, 200421 yr I was thinking that I should replace my stock ALternator with a high output one, good idea? If so what are some suggestions? Or should I buy a reliable OEM standard? Maybe an underdrive pulley? THanks, [HTi]Johnson
June 5, 200421 yr The XT6 alt (90 amp) can be used in place of stock, but it requires some modifications. See the UltimateSubaru Repair manual for specifics. Beyond that, you are looking at some fabrication. Most commonly used is a GM alt, as the wiring setup is similar to a soob.
June 6, 200421 yr i run a gm alt wire for wire and have yet to fry anything and often hit past 5500 rpm on a 220k+ mile motor .. err i prolly shouldn't but it all works fine had to weld up my own bracket but its far cheaper if you have the tools and time to do a gm alt than it is to pay for a low amp suby alt that will die again gm units tend to last.... wel dam near for ever the one i am using came off a car that was alst driven in umm i think 93???
