93 FWD automatic heat problem

Featured Replies

Bought a 93 FWD impreza .does not over heat .both fans are on all the time. Temp gauge reads half way.but gets way to hot inside car even with temp control set to cold .any help or suggestion.! Coolant is full and good

might be a stuck blend door - I think hot coolant goes thru all the time? (not sure on older cars) and it's just modulated/blocked by a flap.

Strange thing is a ground wire from relay under the hood.thinking. Is wired to run both fans.so problem has been there awhile

Change the thermostat with a Subaru OE or equivalent design like Gates 34012.

Check inside the radiator for any buildup in the cores.

Check the outside fins of the radiator for any dirt/leaves/other crud stuck in it.

Fans running constantly can keep the thermostat partially closed all the time and cause coolant to run full flow through the heater core all the time.

Coolant constantly runs through the heater core anyway, but the flow is almost stopped when the thermostat is fully open the way it should be.

Possibly the fans were not turning on at all before, so the PO wires them to run all the time. May be due to a bad temp sensor.

Yes after 2 hrs figured it out.flush out etc... The cable is bad. That lets cool or hot air in.vent was open.radiator .thermostat good.so if anyone has problem .check vent door first

Refresh my memory where is the sensor that control the fans when temp goes up.both my fans are on all the time

Under the manifold on the right rear side.

Not sure exactly what the cable is called. Probably gonna have to find that in a junkyard or check the classifieds here.

Seems that the relay is grounded out .with ground wire so will check .ground and relay. both fans running all the time is ok.but not necessary.

someone did that for a reason so, be prepared to troubleshoot the system and repair properly.
