speedomter cable replace

Featured Replies

Per the thread below, I did pull my speedo cable & it was broke.  Trying to get the replacement in.  Have it seated into the cluster but for the life of me, the part that screws into the tranny will not thread in.  It is like it sits up too far for the threads to catch.  My questions are has anybody had this & what to do about it?  Also can I drive it this way or will tranny fluid come shooting out?  I really need to get this going to today.  Thanks.

Pat

HI,

For future reference, it's good practice to keep all related posts in the same Thread so anyone that's replied gets notified of new posts. If you're doing this on a 'smart' phone, I've had trouble Adding/editing to existing threads.

If you've not figured this out, then perhaps the cable is wrong or your install is wrong. I'd need to see a pic of what isn't working to understand it.

Sorry about the new thread.  As far as the cable, My car is a 94 & the replacement cable is from a 91.  The 94 has a cable that clips onto the part that screws onto the transmission.  The 91 is one piece.  I went ahead & just ordered the little part that screws into the transmission as my cable part is fine.  I will not get the part until next Wednesday so siliconed a bolt into the broken part & screwed it back to prevent diff fluid from leaking.  Thanks for the response.  Will update when I get the part.

Finally got the cable installed today.  There was pieces of the old oil seal stopping the the part from screwing in.  Cleaned out the old & installed the new.  Codes gone.  Everything fine.  Did find info in an old service bulletin #16-60-94 for anybody's interest.
