1992 Subaru Loyale 5 speed 4 WD... I hear scraping and the front wheels want to lock up when I'm backing up. Rolling forward seems to be normal.

How do I stop this? Driving forward is normal. This happen in front wheel drive or 4 WD. Car has 300, 000 and this just started happening.

Could be wheel bearings, jack up the front end grab the wheel and wiggle it up and down if you have slop time for new wheel bearings.

Backing up can activate the automatic brake adjusters. Check that they are working properly.
