What's on the horizon for MPG?

Featured Replies

I am brand new to this thing.  I want to know if any news is out on improved MPG engines coming in near future??

I am renting a Hyundai that gets 50 MPG imperial.,  That is nuts.  Corners hard enough to slide out of the bucket seats too.  If it wasn's so low to the ground, impossible to see out of, no cargo room and FWD terrible in the winter, I would be interested indeed.

How much better do you want?

Yes mpg will improve. Quantitative information is limited.

If you want great gas mileage, a tiny manufacturer that specializes in 4WD lifted vehicles isnt a good place to start these days. That's not their niche or focus so probably be behind in the eyes of hyper-milers - like looking for a 700 acre family farm in Manhattan.

ship in a car from the uk. they have engines over there capable of 80+mpg that are not allowed to be sold in the usa.

now are you ready for the part thats gonna piss you off? we build these engine here in the usa and ship them over there but are not allowed to use them here.

I am hoping to uncover any advanced news abt the Outback and the future MPG forecasts for new models specifically?

That information doesnt exist. Outback mileage hasn't gone up significantly in 20 years, there's nothing special in the pipeline.

Are you looking for a raw 2mpg in subarus, significant gains over other manufacturers, or huge gains in all ICE vehicles? The latter will come quicker if gas prices rise significantly.

Outback gas mileage has basically been the same for 20 years, with very minor upticks. efficiency increases hasnt been able to outstrip size increases, a big bump any time soon is unlikely at best.

are you looking for 2017 numbers or something else?

www.cars101.com is a Subaru specific site good for lots of research questions. he keeps it regularly updated. states 32mpg for 2017.

Subaru.com would be another option.
