August 18, 20169 yr So I'll be grabbing a JDM transmission when the one in my 03 outback bean finally explodes. Hopefully I'll get a year of driving out of it.., I wanted to know, which automatic transmissions will work in this car? Thank you people of the forum! This is my Subaru : https://youtu.be/k6Bt5qKo0hc Edited August 18, 20169 yr by Lverano
August 18, 20169 yr JDM is a year more advanced or something like that, right? The H6 LL bean uses 4.11 gears, H4 outbacks use 4.44, legacy H4 autos use 4.11 as well- but I keep hearing the H6 4.11 trans is different from the H4 4.11 trans, but don't recall hearing the details. The 01-03 H6 4EAT US bolts right in, the 04 works if you swap the solenoid and valve in the tail section, 2004 reversed the way the lockup signal works (2004, +12V to lock up, 0V to turn of all power to the rear)

August 19, 20169 yr I want to add that not all 2004 3.0 autos were reversed for the AWD. Mine is earlier in the year (found out engine and transmission combo were put together in 2003) were the same as the 2002 and 2003. It's also a non VDC car so just the typical 4EAT.

August 19, 20169 yr I'm not sure there's a way to tell if an '04 is reversed without pulling the tail (difference is visible) or just driving it... unless the trans is still in the car, then you can put in the FWD fuse and measure the voltage on the wire to the solenoid. It makes sense they'd 'use up' the older version in early '04, there's never a clean break!
August 20, 20169 yr It's all about the transmission code. I was able to find that up through a certain number, are standard. I have a bit of torque bind in mine and wanted to see if it was under the TSB but it was the earlier system.
