Incorrect rear diff burnt up center diff?

So, I have a 96 BG MT with 25/22 hybrid. I need to do the center diff, and I've wondered if the 3.90 LSD in the rear may have been a factor in it's failure. Thoughts? 

Unless the front and rear diff ratios are different, it should not matter that the reas is an LS unit.

    if the front and rear final drives are the same, either age/bad luck took out the enter diff - or the car has been run with a mixed size of tires lonf enough to damage the CD.
