December 29, 20169 yr I've had this car for about three years now (1990 Legacy LS automatic) and have not been able to figure out what this button is for or what it's supposed to do. The girlfriend and I have been guessing everything from ejector seat to self-destruct control. Or maybe they put it there just to drive us crazy guessing. Anyway can someone please tell me what it's for?
December 29, 20169 yr Hi and Welcome to the USMB, That's the Shift Lock Release. It allows you to shift the transmission w/out putting in the key and pushing the brake. Ensure the PARKING BRAKE is SET before messing w/it...so you don't roll away. Edited December 29, 20169 yr by wtdash
December 29, 20169 yr Author Aha! That's why nothing ever happened when I pushed it! Thank you very much for the info and not mentioning how filthy it is. Sheesh I hadn't really noticed till I saw the picture. I know what I'm doing this weekend after I take down the Christmas lights.
