February 16, 20179 yr Hello all, I have a 99 outback with a 2.2l swap. The motor has 180,000 mi, and chassis has 205,000mi. I was having some idling issues, so i replaced the fuel filter. Was easy enough. Put some new gas and an injector cleaner in it. its been a week and still drives like its thirsty. Can someone tell me if i should look at replacing the in tank filter, or am i missing something. Thanks
February 16, 20179 yr If you have a new fuel filter and no new response, I'd would be checking your fuel pump. Maybe she is getting weak.
February 16, 20179 yr Stop guessing, you're going to keep working and not fixing. if you asked before hand, i would have said the fuel filter isn't the issue. 1. read the check engine codes (even if the light isn't on in case there are pending codes) 2. is the check engine light on? 3. check the idle controller - they routinely get gummed up. sometimes cleaning them helps, otherwise install another good used one 4. have the spark plugs and wires ever been replaced? 5. describe the symptoms as closely as you can - does it always do it, does it run absolutely show room perfect besides idle or it has other quirks...is it in meticulous condition or has lots of problems?

The check engine light has been on. It was running good. starts up good every time I'll have to look into the idle controller. It will need a tune up . The issue came on rather quick When Im at freeway speed, i have no problem, but I have to feather it at low rpm then smooths out. thanks
February 17, 20179 yr Check for vacuum leaks. Small ones affect idle but are fine above 1000rpm or so. Check engine light will help determine what else it could be.
