March 16, 20179 yr For the FOURTH TIME since I've owned my 2011 Outback I've had to change the front head light bulb that keeps burning out, H7 type. So, I made a video. The first time I did a bulb change it took about an hour, now I'm down to 15 minutes. I tried to include everything that was most irritating 1) The little screw snaps and 2) that #$^@ wire thing that holds the bulb into place. If you're looking to change a bulb I hope my video will help you, I know that there are a couple Subaru fixes that this forum has given me, so here's a little back. March 16, 20179 yr Good work. FYI, if your car isn't a salvage. 2010 and 2011 Legacies and Outbacks got a warranty extension for the headlights. The dealership will replace them for free. There's also a way to get reimbursed for the ones you've purchased, although I don't know the details on it.
March 16, 20179 yr The standard H7s work but, as you've seen, last a very short time. There's an long life version that goes on for a normal amount of time. We got ours off Amazon. Switching to the X7LL fixes the problem. https://allwheeldriveauto.com/subaru-head-light-bulb-life-explained/ Good article on the Subaru bulb life.
March 17, 20179 yr Author Thanks for the reply guys, I'll have to check out the extended warranty - if I find details I will post them on my youtube video... Yeah I'm not sure why they keep blowing out, I figured an electrical over current issue. But next time (hmmm, in about 9 months) I'll have another fail and try the X7LL version. By the way, I can't see the link to my video in my original post. Were you guys able to view it? Thanks, Mike
