May 23, 20178 yr A friend has a 98 5 speed outback. His flashers will randomly blink sometimes. Should be an alarm issue, but here's the problem. I have looked everywhere for an alarm system and can't find one. I have looked where my 97 outback has one and I've looked where the 99 outback has them and nothing. I found the reset button and followed the wires, but they were cut off and went no where. Also the red security light is gone. He has remote entry that works, but does not reset the alarm and the door lock button doesn't reset it either. Any one have any thought. And no, it's not the parking light button on the column :-). Thanks Dp213
May 23, 20178 yr With cut wires, the alarm system has probably been removed. Sounds like the wiring system could be a mess, and not likely to be easily fixable.
May 23, 20178 yr im pretty sure if you unhook the battery turn the key on then hook the battery back up that will trick the alarm off. it is part of the keyless unit.

I have done that before on wife's 98 Outback. Yes that can work, just be sure to have your fab in hand to turn off the alarm, as reattaching the battery cable can set off the alarm.
May 23, 20178 yr Author I tried that and it didn't work. There is no alarm system that I can find and it looks like an aftermarket key fob
