95 legacy starting delay?

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Lately I have noticed on my 95 5MT legacy a small delay between turning the key and it turning over. This morning it wouldn't start and after repeated tries I kept the key turned for say ten seconds and it started. Is that the starter or could be something else?

Thanks so much.

I have one that has a little weak spot in it if you don't twist the key quite so far it starts really fast.    Otherwise I don't know if I am completely understanding what your  saying.

Worn Ignition switch contacts.

replace the switch, or add a relay or pushbutton or both.

I personally like a pushbutton that triggers a relay......but the 12v+ for the button I run through a first relay triggered on by the key on......so no accidental;y cranking starter without key on.

Those two guys are way more experienced than me, but could it also be the solenoid?

Which of the following is it, paying particular attention to when the starter relay clicks, it makes an audible noise.

1. Turn key - delay - click - start

or

2. Turn key- click - delay - start

I would think #2 is failing solenoid contacts.
