June 23, 200421 yr So yesterday my cruise control stoped working...the light comes on when I press the botton...but it does not let me set a speed or accelarate. Could is be a fuse or something with the brakes (making it think i'm applying the brakes) 1996 Outback...anyone have any ideas?
June 23, 200421 yr 4 options--- 1st Look at the trottle, there are two cable to pull it... One goes through the firewall to the loud pedal, the other goes to a vacum canister in the engine bay, just under the driver's side windshield wiper. Check out the vacum hose attached to the other side of that canister, make sure it is on tight, mabe use a wire tie/clamp to be sure it is. 2nd Another issue may be dirty contacts in the switch on the steering wheel, shoot some contact cleaner in there and work the crap out of that switch to clean it out. 3rd Auto or 5 speed, if 5 speed it could be the switch on the clutch pedal, on one of my old wagons, I had to hold the pedal up with my foot to use the CC. 4th Could be the brake switch like you said
June 23, 200421 yr Author It was working fine yesterday...then I was in a 35MPH area and wanted to use my CC because cops love to set up speed traps there because if there was no signs you'd think it was a 55MPH...so I was accelerating and setting speed a whole lot with my CC lever...then later...it didn't work. I'll check out everything and make sure it looks good. Yes, it is a 5 speed.
June 23, 200421 yr Author I looked at everything and it seemed to be ok. The brakes and clutch come up all the way...so I dunno. Anyone know how much it would cost to get it fixed? I don't know how long I can go without cruise control. :-/
June 24, 200421 yr Contact fluid...where could I get that? Radio Shack or something? RS, other independant electonic shops, Autozone, Napa, etc. Just make sure it is designed for electronics...
