The title says it all. I have a 2000 Legacy L 5 speed 2.5 litre, with 76,000 km (or 47,500 miles) on the clock. I've had it for almost a year and a half, & think it's a great car.

Having just discovered this forum, it seems like it might be a good idea to get prepared for some problems, particularly in the head gasket department.

Is this the infamous Phase 1 engine? If it is, when does trouble generally start to show up? And, does anyone have any non-dealer mechanic recommendations in the Vancouver B.C. area?

That's all for now; I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future.

Thanks.

you have a phase 2 engine. Not sure exactly what to tell you about when it will break if at all even. As for help to find a good mechanic....there are many great folks from out your way that should be able to point you in the right direction...I'm totally on the wrong side of the continent to be of any assistance.
