Good Day!

My daughter's 99 SUS sedan is giving me fits and I need your input on a couple of things.

The hazard lights have stopped working and when I press the button, the turns also are dead.  Checked the fuse, connections, replaced the 'blinker' under the dash, and studied lots of things.  Did order a new Subaru relay or resister that is under the dash to see if that works, but it hasn't come in.  What am I missing?

And the power antenna will not go up when qued from the radio.  There isn't any sound of a mechanical issue, I can jump the connection and it works fine when I manually bring power to it.  It is the original unit and there isn't any excessive wear on the toothed part of the mast.  It just flabbergasts me.

For some reason, I feel these 2 items are related and I haven't figured it out.  What can I learn from you?

3 parts to every circuit:

- Load

- Ground

- Power

Check out Load Pro on you tube.  Was any work done before these stopped working?  Did they ever work since you've had the car?

Pull up the schematic and check for voltage under load.  

I had the same thing happen with the hazard lights on my son's 97 Outback.  Checked fuses  and connections...nothing helped.  My son went on the internet and found a suggestion for a repair.  They said to smartly strike the dash with open palm near the hazard switch.  I said ya right.  I tried it and believe it or not, it worked.

 

On the radio antenna, I had the same thing happen to my 98 Outback.  The motor would work, but the antenna wouldn't raise.   I got the replacement parts from Subaru and repaired the antenna.  It worked for about two months but then quit again.  If I had to do it over again I would just replace the antenna with an aftermarket one that doesn't retract and be done with it.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try the 'thumping' technique tomorrow.  As far as previous repairs, lots has been done but I cannot remember if anything was near the electrical.  Will have to do more pondering about everything I tinkered with. 

When I purchased the vehicle, 4 years ago, the hazards worked fine.  It had an issue with the heating and cooling lever and I did take it apart but after fixing that, the hazards still worked.  It is going to take some time to isolate this issue.

I found the Load Pro information great.  This is something to put on my christmas list.  Going to have to get a better voltage tester as well.

On Aug 23, this car heads to college and it will  be out of my reach to work on easily.  But I do plan to go over and visit and check on things.  I will keep trying and report back as I figure things out.
