What is this part?

Featured Replies

It was attached to an a/c pipe on a bracket that the ignition coil was mounted on.

I've been having some (lots) of trouble starting this car (1985 gl 1800) and the newest ignition coil I bought mentioned an external resistor. Does anyone know if that's what this is and where I'd get one If I needed it? My Google bubble had not been helpful.

Thanks in advance!!!

It is a noise suppressing capacitor which filters out the alternator's noise from your sound system. You will find these at any store or shop that deals with radios or automotive sound systems, or electronics suppliers.

Try googling ignition coils, resistor or no resistor

Coils also state use with igniter, not confusing things?

12v IGN hits resistor to drop it to about 8v for you to measure at coil +  if you have points dizzy with IGN on and running if I got it correct

If you have no points normally with these old things you have no resistor and coil gets 12 v at coil +
