Are 2008 DOHC and 2009 SOHC EJ25 blocks the same?

Featured Replies

I'm looking at a 2008 Outback XT (DOHC, turbocharged) that has a real bad rod knock, and have available an SOHC from a 2009 Forester. Are these blocks the same, and is it possible to move all of the DOHC parts from one to the other?

Thanks!

Similar, but not the same. The OBXT EJ255 block is semi closed, with more reinforced cylinder walls. Also the pistons will be different to drop the compression for the turbo.

Probably more that I'm not thinking of.

But it would be possible to move all the external components (oil pan, oil/water pumps, heads, intake, coolant bridge, etc. etc.) ...but far from ideal.
