90-91 legacy L AWD w/no reverse help!

I'm looking at a 90-91 legacy L AWD sedan with a auto tranny. It will not go in reverse. is there a governer that can be cleaned like on the older GL models? What could it be? It goes forward fine in all gears.

Probably the solenoid is bad? Or the AT Shift Control Unit (aka Tranny Computer Unit) is bad? Other things to look for is the actual shift lever and its engagement mechanism, which is located inside the tranny itself and you have to lower the tranny to work on it. Very time consuming also.
