25EJ question for the experts

Featured Replies

Reading several of the newer posts I read that there are problems with the DOHC 2.5 engines.

Can someone elaborate?

The answer you're probably fishing for is the head gasket issue, which is actually two problems:

The first part involves combustion gasses getting into the coolant, eventually causing an overheating and warpage issue if not tended to promptly. :(

The second part involves total dissavowment by Subaru. "Problem, what problem?"

That would be the problem with the phase 1 EJ25. Phase 2s suffer an external leak. BUT besides the HG problems these engines and cars have many more non typical subaru ailments. For instance our 01 OBW has had 3 fuel injectors replaced in 60K miles. The #2 injector has been replaced twice! SOA refuses to stand behind their own repairs and says this is normal wear and tear. If this is the new normal subaru might as well quit building cars as far as I'm concerned. When I called SOA looking for a goodwill warranty on the second #2 injector (it was just outside of warranty) they basically told me to get lost. When I told them it would be part of the class action law suit they got all huffy and indignent. We really need to sue these aholes.
