December 4, 20232 yr Could a remedy just be keeping the gas cap loose? Edited to add: I'm using a non-Subaru gas cap which may be the issue. I tried loosening the cap, no difference. Edited December 7, 20232 yr by ThosL
December 8, 20232 yr You are not giving us any information. I assume your having trouble filling the tank? If so, your Evap system has issues and must be evaluated. What codes is it throwing?
December 11, 20232 yr Author Hi--I cannot fill the gas intake except very slowly, when forced the gas overflows but most stations have pumps that do not permit that. Edited December 11, 20232 yr by ThosL
December 11, 20232 yr I have a vehicle that for years would trip the overfill shutoff at the gas pump for unknown reasons. I found out that if I turn the filler handle upside down, I can pump at nearly full speed without tripping the shutoff. Not sure if that will work for you temporarily until you find out the issue.
December 11, 20232 yr Author I think it's something about the evap. canister, the code comes up. Cannot fill reasonably any way.
December 12, 20232 yr It can be either the canister or the valve. It's easy to replace both and they're not very expensive, just messy because they're located behind the passenger-side rear tire underneath the car and road filth accumulates on them.
December 12, 20232 yr Author So I'll probably have to go to the junkyard. The pollution device in that area is also not working but since it does not affect performance have not devoted attention to it.

I used to see this trick done 40 years ago on problem fillers
December 14, 20232 yr Author The gas just spills out when I jigger the gas fill handle to pump out more, so not the shutoff.
December 14, 20232 yr Have you checked the fuel vent pipe and hoses for kinks or dents. All this stuff is behind the passenger side wheel and metal shield. Could be rock/ice damage to fill neck vent tube. If the fuel tank can't vent it won't fill.
December 19, 20232 yr Author I don't drive on dirt roads where the fuel vent pipe would get crimped, etc.. Only in last six months have I had this problem. I tried to eyeball the critical area, hard to get access.
