how oh how do i get this friggin muffler off? the welds are too strong to chip at them w/ a hammer and chisel, and i dont have enough room for a hacksaw, sawzall, etc. ideas?

Time to undo some hangers and let it fall to the ground. There are some rubber hangers and bolt on hangers. Should be easy enough to find; just follow the pipes and youll see where it's hung from the unibody
