Inspect PCV

Featured Replies

I have a 02 Legacy Wagon and the 30K mile dealer service includes "Inspect PCV". I cant find any reference to the PCV in the owners manual. Can anyone tell me where my PCV is located?

The pcv is located on top (lookers left) of the engine and has a vaccum tube connected to it. At 30K I wouldn't worry about it. I replaced mine at 105K just for fun...it was perfectly fine.

105 is a bit too far. I would rate 60k as the max.

At 30k flushing it to clean out oil deposits would be a good idea. Remove it, flush it, let it dry, install. Or replace, they aren't expensive.

The part that wears out is the spring. As it gets weaker, it will open later and not draw the right amount of gas from the crankcase.

PCV valve neglect contributes to oil leaks. They are cheap, I have been replacing ours once a year, or about every 30k miles. I only wish my Jeep had a PCV valve that was so easy to replace. Subarus are such a joy to work on.
