Aftermarket CD player into 93 legacy

Featured Replies

Alright, I tried the search feature, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

So, I have the cd player out of my old car, and I want to put it into my legacy. I went to Crutchfield.com to get a "vehicle specific mounting plate" but they didn't have one. All they had was one to mount it under the dash. I want to pull the old stereo and put in mine. Can I do this and still have it look clean? Where could I find the specific plate to mount it?

Thanks,

The Legacy radios come in 2 forms. One is 1.5 din and the other is 1 din high. If yours is 1.5 then you need to go to a salvage yard and find a 1 din high cubby and bracket set to put the aftermarket radio in.

I did what josh did and went to a yard and got the single DIN cubby and pocket. I also used the ISO (japanese mounting system) in my new radio to keep it in there. If you bought a system with a detachable faceplate then you might not need the trim ring that comes with your new deck. I had to remove mine with my new JVC. It looks super sharp too. Hope this helps.

Oh yeah...the single din cubby gives you a bigger pocket too.

I installed a JVC in my MY91, and to my delight, it mounted right up to the 1.5 DIN bracket. The downside? I now have a 2" rectangular hole below it. If you re-use the bracket from the OEM stereo, be sure to find a suitable piece of plastic to place over this gap. OR, you could mount an EQ in there :D

Thanks for the help.

How do I tell what I have, though? The 1 or the 1.5?

Thanks in advance,

If you have a 1.5 DIN radio, when you put your CD player in your going to have a 2" gap between the CD player and your flip up pocket (located under your stereo).

When I bought my '92 Legacy, it had the stock 1.5 Din stereo in it, with an aftermarket Kenwood mounted below. I had no flip up pocket, but one day at the junkyard I found a flip up pocket from a legacy with a standard DIN sized radio (which came stock) and a 1.5 DIN sized flip up pocket. I took that pocket, and was able to re-arrange my stereo so that Its on top, and the pocket is below. Looks stock, and no unused space at all. Not to mention, the flip up pocket is the perfect size to store CD cases, and the 1.5 DIN pocket gives me extra room for more CD's.

awesome. Thanks. Looks like I'll be heading to the Junkyard.

What year legacy had the standard DIN sized stereo?

Couldnt tell you, look in every single Legacy there. Also, might wanna look in Impreza's too if there are any.
