October 4, 200421 yr HEY SKIP CHILL OUT IRL Am I the only one that remembers that little test between Subaru Outback and Volvo CrossCountry? Remember they saw the Outback AWD work pulling a trailer up a muddy hill and then the Volvo just spun its front tires and never kicked in AWD? Subaru AWD works and if you want to offroad a Subaru get one with 4WD Lo range!
January 19, 200521 yr Rweddy is right. I ran the test i set up with my dad's car (don't tell him!) The front wheel will spin without much effort on the part of the engine. Damn. well, I guess I'll be sticking to good ole' 4wd for offroading. AWD does do pretty good though, I have to admit.
January 19, 200521 yr I've had my 90 legacy wagon on some pretty steep, rocky hills out in Colorado and just watched as my cousins 99 4X4 Durrango just spun it's tires. He made me sware to never tell a sould but I just couldn't do....Sorry Mike.

If you are off-roading 4wd is the way to go, but I will take my AWD any day on the road or for light off-road stuff.
January 19, 200521 yr I should have the 242 t-case in my XJ saturday, then I will have both AWD (full-time 4WD actually) and 4WD. I can't wait.
