The rear washer on my 97 Outback wagon leaks whenever I accelerate. The pump (which is located up front) works fine whenever I push the button on the control stalk. I've traced the tubing all the way to the back and into the tailgate and can't see any reason why it continues to leak water when under pressure. I talked to the dealer who thought it might have been a faulty pump, so I replaced that over the weekend. Still it leaks. I've looked at the wiper unit (on the rear) and to my untrained eyes it appears that the water simply passes through. Does anyone know if there is a pressure valve or something on the outside that might have fallen off and lets the water through? For the time being I have the nozzle plugged with some silicon - which seems to have done the trick - but I would like to get it fixed and working properly

This is a reacurring problem for 90 - 96 Nissan 300ZX's. I follow their forum (since I have one as well as the Subie) and not a week goes by that someone complains about the hood mounted windshield washer nozzles dribbling on the hood whenever they accelerate. The fix is to install a small plastic check valve in the hose just before the nozzle, and it can be ordered from the dealership. The valve only allows fluid through it when its under pressure from the washer pump. I never had the problem with my ZX or my 97 OBW, but I'd be off to a Nissan dealer, order the part for a 90 - 96 300ZX (you'll only need one, the Z needs 2 for both nozzles), pull the inside trim panel on the tailgate, cut the rubber feed line to the nozzle, install the check valve and solve the dribble. Hope this makes sense and is of some help.

I know I saw this issue recently on this board (couldn't find it in the search function) and I believe there may be a check valve somewhere in your system already. Check with your local dealer or call elsewhere (Jason at 1stSubaruParts.com is great with info searches) since the local dealer may have already sold you the washer pump unneccesarily.

Thanks for the advice. I purchased the Nozzle Washer from Nissan and it's working like a charm. In case anyone is interested, the part number is 28628-11C00. Cost is about $7.50, which is much less than the $50 that the pump motor cost to replace.

Glad you were able to come up with a solution but the fact that there is a Subaru solution should take you back to the dealer that sold you the $50 pump unnecessarily and you can dope slap him.
