Help: Where is transmission control unit (tcu) located on a 1990 legacy/wagon?

Featured Replies

Would someone be so kind enough to tell me where it is located? I know it is supposed to be under the steering wheel somewhere but I can not seem to find it. All I see is the fuse box left of the brakes. Someone mentioned a vertical box but can't seem to find that either. Any help is appreciated.

Look just to right of the fuse box and up. It's located vertically there. But first, you have to take out the cover piece that covers the under part of the steering column that goes all the way across the entire section above where your knees would be. After you take out that cover piece, you should see the TCU box. There are two nuts holding the TCU to the chassic bolts. They use socket 10mm. Good luck!

I have the same make/model/year Subaru and if my memory serves me correctly, the TCU is gold in color while the ECU is silver. Hope this helps as well.
