tweety bird in the clutch

Featured Replies

93 Legacy L MT The linkage outside the engine from the clutch has an annoying tweet. If I hold the fork steady where the adjusting nut is attached, or if I slightly press on the clutch, the sound stops. The car sat for nearly 6 months before I got it and I'm hoping that spraying some "tweet no more" will remedy it. There is a bunch of rubber boots and rods in the linkage and I'm not sure what to spray. This is my first foray into the land of manual transmission/clutch so I am a stranger in a strange land to anything other than repairs that entail tapping gently with the heel of my shoe.

My 92 Legacy did that for a long time. It turned out to be the clutch release bearing.

I suggest you just live with this annoyance, until it's time to replace the clutch plate. Replace the bearing at that time.

The fork is lubed with grease at the back piviot and the contact points with the T/O Bearing. Using spray may wash away what grease is there. I'd let it be, it may go away with time if its surface rust.

Does like a worn throw-out/release bearing. The slight pressure you put on it takes up the slack and stops the squeal.
