1996 impreza 2.2 erractic ldle on start up

Featured Replies

Hello I am new to this forum and seeking for some expert advice. Own a 1996 2.2 impreza auto 4wd with 83k miles. Notice the past 2 days that during cold start up the idle would go up as high as 2200 rpm for a couple of seconds before if would idle down to 1200 then to its normal idle speed. It never use go as high as 2200 rpm .

Yesterday it did it again but now the idle was totally erractic, fluctuating to and from 2200 to normal idle speed of 800rpm, it never stabilize plus I notice that the check engine light was now lit. What could have gone bad?

Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks

Have AutoZone read your check engine codes. Bet someone can help once you tell us what they find.

I wanna bump this up to get an update since I'm having the same problem, but with a few more variables to add to the mix. I bypassed the coolant lines running through (what appears to be) the IAC motor and the fact that the original 1.8L ECU, sensors and TB are now operating a EJ25.

I'm having the codes read today and will try to contribute what I find out in my case to see if it has any relation to the original problem.

Had the car scanned and got an engine fault code of P0505 ( Idle system malfunction) Any ideas what to replaced or check? Could it be the idle control valve solenoid? is this the same thing as a IAC?

again any input would be appreciated

thanks
